The Barrens

The Barrens is a desolate region of rocky hills, salt flats, and scrub plains. While inhospitable to most, it is a vital source of many of the continent's most hardy beasts.

Terrain and Environment

• Alkali Flats: Expansive salt-covered plains where few plants can survive.
• Scrub Plains: Arid stretches of land dominated by hardy, low-lying vegetation.
• Rocky Hills: Rugged terrain providing limited shelter and vantage points.

Fauna

The region is home to several species of reptiles that are integral to Talislantan transport and warfare:

• Land Lizards: Herds of these creatures roam the area in great numbers. They are valued across the continent as reliable pack and burden beasts.
• Mangonel Lizards: Native to the alkali flats, these are a particularly combative species. [^1]

Inhabitants: The Danelek

The primary humanoid inhabitants of this sector are the Danelek, a collection of primitive tribes.

• Lifestyle: They lead a nomadic existence, following the herds of land lizards.
• Warfare: They are skilled at taming mangonel lizards, which they employ as formidable war-steeds.
