Apprentice Craftsman
Learning how to design and craft shields, armor, weapons, ships, carts, or other conveyances is a long, arduous process. Apprentices can work and study for years before becoming masters themselves. The first step is choosing a trade, such as a blacksmith, potter, armorer, weaponer, or even a shipwright. Then the prospective student must find a master to learn from. Apprentices only rarely get to practice their chosen craft, and instead, perform menial labor like cleaning and running errands. In return for their labor, the master will often give the apprentice room and board. Apprentices are expected to pay careful attention to the activities of the master, and to learn by observation, and not so much by doing.
