Mirin
The Mirin are a people of noble bearing, tall and statuesque with bright blue skin and hair as white and fine as gossamer. They typically dress in robes and headdresses trimmed with the hide of the frostwere.
Origins and the Boon of Borean
The Mirin are believed to be descended from a group of Archaens whose floating city fell during The Great Disaster.
- The Northward Flight: Fleeing vengeful Wild Folk, the survivors reached the frozen north.
- A Miraculous Boon: Commending their souls to the elemental deity Borean, they were granted immunity to cold, allowing them to survive and flourish in the sub-zero environment.
Society and Lifestyle
Mirin society is built on cooperation and mutual respect.
- Dwellings: They live in crystalline ice castles carved from glacial quarries.
- Equality: All professions—from hunters and warriors to priests and alchemists—are equally valued.
- Craftsmanship: Mirin alchemists are renowned for forging adamant, a blue diamond alloy that remains durable in extreme cold.
Customs and Diversions
- Melding: A ritual "bonding of spirits" that creates a psychic link between mates or close friends. While not a form of direct communication, it allows each to sense if the other is in distress.
- Ice Schooner Racing: A popular diversion involving sail-driven vessels with adamant runners. Winners are awarded trophies of adamant and blue diamond.
