Sunra
The Sunra are a semi-aquatic race known for their graceful stature and silver-scaled skin. They possess striking deep-blue eyes and typically dress in simple silk robes, sandals, and headbands.
History and Origins
Dating back to before The Great Disaster, the Sunra ancestors—the Sun-Ra-San—were legendary seafarers.
- Ancient Past: They once ranged the Far Seas in glittering dragon barques, hunting sea dragons and trading with distant lands.
- Current Status: Most of the population now resides in the Coral City of Isalis as subjects of the Quan.
Environment and Diet
The Sunra have adapted to survive both above and below the water.
- Dwellings: Their homes in Isalis are gracefully carved from great mounds of coral and adorned with shells.
- Diet: They subsist on kelp and algae served in stews and broths.
- Adaptation: Their food is deliberately high in salt and liquid content, which allows them to function out of water for extended periods without discomfort. [^1]
Society and Culture
Sunra society is built around education and extended family groups.
- Family: Couples mate for life (and beyond) in a ceremony called the "merging of souls." Children are raised by both parents and grandparents.
- Education: They have a great love of learning. Training in crafts like sea-farming, ship-building, and astromancy begins as early as age two.
- Taboos: They believe the souls of their ancestors reside within Moonfish. Harming these creatures is thought to bring a terrible curse.

- Burial: The dead are taken aboard a dragon barque for burial at sea, where they may be "reborn as moonfish."

- Names: Hyphenated names are standard, starting with "Su" for males (e.g., Sur-Rin) and "Sa" for females (e.g., San-Ran).
[^1]: This dietary adaptation is essential for their role as the primary sailors and naval force of the Quan Empire. [^2]: Sunra characters replace any armor received from Paths with dragon scale armor.
